2019 · Living shoreline · Stone revetment · Reconstruction
From a failing revetment to a living shoreline.
The existing revetment at Turkey Point was failing: stone had tumbled and scattered, the sandy edge behind it was eroding, and the marsh fringe was being cut back with every storm.
The project began with site inspections and a meeting with MDE on the shoreline itself. From there, WEDC engineered a reconstruction that pairs a rebuilt stone revetment with a stone sill and a planted living shoreline.
Phase 1 placed the stone under permit conditions — including a turbidity curtain to contain sediment. The finished work is a curved stone sill, a reconstructed revetment, and new marsh grass growing in behind the stone, with the pier crossing it all.
